Dixiecrats-The States' Rights Party, 1948

Dr. Glenn Feldman, University of Alabama at Birmingham
A good informational site sponsored by the Alabama Department of Archives and history. This site would be helpful to teachers or secondary students looking for basic information. The "parent" link, Alabama Moments in American History is a good site for students and teachers as it is "keyed" to the Alabama history standards/test and therefore covers basic material in U.S./southern history. There are no specific teacher resources such as lesson plans, but the information is geared for secondary students. The Dixiecrat site does name the major "players" and explain the political platform of the group. The site may appear to have a bias as it clearly states that the Dixiecrats were citing states rights as an excuse to maintain racial prejudice.
