"Marcus Garvey: Look for Me in the Whirlwind" PBS, American Experience
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/amex/garvey
This outstanding site from PBS is the companion to a film on Marcus Garvey aired on the show American Experience. The site not only has primary source documents, interactive features including pictures and sound clips, but also it has an excellent teacher's guide. While the site is meant to accompany the film, there is certainly enough information included to allow the teacher to present a lesson on Garvey without the film. The site would also be useful for students doing research. Garvey's program is appropriate material for high school students. The economics involved in Garvey's UNIA and Black Star shipping line make comprehension of his dealings difficult for young students to understand.

The Marcus Garvey and Universal Negro Improvement Association Papers Project
http://www.isop.ucla.edu/mgpp/default.htm Marcus Garvey was one of the most colorful figures in the early (1920's) Civil Rights Movement. This site, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Ford and Rockefeller Foundations, and the University of California at Los Angeles is the comprehensive collection of Garvey's papers. While the site may be too academic to be extremely useful to teachers and students, it would be extremely helpful to anyone doing a research project on Garvey. There are links to photographs, sound files which downloaded quickly and easily, as will as links to multiple volumes of papers which can be ordered from the Web site. This site will have a complete collection of primary source materials presented in an unbiased manner. A must for researchers but of less use for teachers and students for general classroom coverage, this site is the place to find a primary source document outlining Garvey's philosophy.
