Producing the Video Handout:
WebQuest Activity
- Write a script for your three to five minute video based on what you have decided is the most important information from your research. You can use the script format on the script page (modeled on an actual script from KWWL Television, Waterloo, Iowa) or design a format of your own.
- After you've completed the script, use sticky notes to create a sequence of simple drawings of each camera shot.
- Use the picture gallery for shots from the "field." Don't spend a lot of time making beautiful drawings--stick figures will do. Then, try rearranging the order of the sticky notes to see which way the sequence works best.
- Once you are satisfied that you have the story in the best order, complete a final draft of the script.
- Finally, shoot your video making sure you shoot in the sequence of your script to avoid having to edit. Use the Picture Gallery for "location" or interview shots.
If you do not have video equipment to use, you could accomplish this report in a variety of other ways. For instance, your group could do the script as a live theatre production in the classroom where you simulate a news broadcast. Or, you could do a PowerPoint presentation on a computer. Whichever way you choose to create your presentation, if will be effective if the group selects a style of presentation that is possible with available resources. Remember, do not get too hung up on the actual shooting of the video. The most important thing is telling the story in a way that touches your audience.
